Big Bay

Big Bay

Bloubergstrand – Cape Town, South Africa

Big Bay can be found in Bloubergstrand in Cape Town. It is a white sandy beach with two rocky points that enter the sea making a small bay. The water is often cold due to the Benguela current that flows along the west coast of Africa. The wind components are usually S and SE. The waves aren’t as big as at the other nearby spots as the bay is protected by Robben Island, which you can see clearly from the shore along with the spectacular Table Mountain.

Big Bay Windsurf

This spot is better for jumping than for wave riding although the waves still allow you to do some tricks. It’s a beachbreak but when it’s big, it produces a wave further out which can get quite a vertical face and is great for getting air. It can get busy in the water and the wind can be a bit gusty. It’s a sandy beach so no worries about your equipment getting damaged on rocks.
